Stay Motivated While You Stay At Home

Right now most of us are stuck SAFE at home and I'll admit, it has me going a little stir crazy. I've taken for granted all the minuscule social interactions I used to have on a daily basis. I miss all the little things, like going out for a cup of coffee or having lunch in a public setting. I even kind of miss my UPS guy ringing my doorbell to bring me a package - now, he literally just throws them over the gate! (Hopefully, I don't order anything fragile. And at this point, I can't even remember what I've been ordering). But, I am remaining at home and doing what I can to protect myself and others during this time.

I am contributing to the greater good! And I should feel happy about that, so why am I feeling sad and unmotivated? It got me thinking - are others feeling unmotivated too? And what can I do to snap out of my funk? Instead of harping on all the things I'm missing out in the world, why don't I focus on what I can do with my time at home? I'm not talking about everyday chores and wiping down counters and cleaning bathrooms. I'm talking about occupying my time with something creative and motivational - something that will get the wheels turning and keep my mind moving! Here's what I came up with:


MAKE ART!

Art comes in so many different forms and the possibilities are endless. The creative process of making a piece of art (painting, drawing, writing a song, etc.) expands your thinking by using a different part of the brain. You literally can make anything into art. Cut up an old magazine and make a collage or vision board. Grab a pen and paper and just doodle. Hell, you can even draw with ketchup, mustard, chocolate sauce, sriracha or splatter paint with pickle juice. Be creative! Use what you have at home or order some art supplies online. Don't over think it. Just be free and get that mind flowing. Making art can actually raise serotonin levels, so start creating today!


LISTEN TO MUSIC!

Yep, it's as easy as turning on your favorite jam and dancing like nobody's watching. Or if someone is watching, bring them into your dance party! Let yourself just move in any way your body feels comfortable. These movements can release synovial fluid which lubricates your joints to help you move freely and pain free. Synovial fluid also helps feed and detoxify your joints. It delivers nutrients to the cartilage and removes waste from that same cartilage. So get yo' dance on! PS - I've been having 80's dance parties regularly (sometimes in the shower) and they give me LIFE even though they annoy the crap out of my fiancé Brett.


MAKE A FANCY DINNER!

The key here is to cook it yourself - no cheating and grabbing take out and just putting it on pretty plates! Order from an online company where all the ingredients are sent straight to your door. There's such a variety of food to choose from - including vegan! Set the dinner table, light a candle and enjoy. (You might as well add a glass of wine or two as well!)


SHOWER!

Yeah, this may seem like something that doesn't need to be said, but you probably need a shower! I know I need to remind myself daily. 😂 Wash your hair and put on a hair mask - it'll feel like a little extra bit of luxury. You can make a DIY hair mask with an overripe banana (yeah, I know you have one of those hanging around) and 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Blend the two together - blend up the banana first to make sure there are no lumps and then add in the olive oil - and in just a few seconds you have created a mask for hydrated, conditioned and shiny hair! Apply hair mask to wet hair, after shampooing, and leave on for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse well (and boom you've just occupied yourself for an hour... you're welcome)! 💥


PUT ON BRIGHT COLORED MAKEUP

Colors have the power to make you happy! So grab a bright eyeshadow or lipstick or blush or eyeliner and have at it! Don't worry if it doesn't look good, 'cause no one is going to see you! Not sure what it is about slapping on some lipstick but it WORKS. Men, I have you covered, don't think I left you out of this category - go Braveheart! Why not? Paint some streaks on your face! You're inside and no one is going to see it (unless your significant other decides to post a pic on social media - YES PLEASE!)


AND OF COURSE, PRESS PLAY ON YOUR FAVORITE B&B WORKOUT!

This one is pretty self explanatory. Put down the social media and pick up a dumbbell! I don't care if you workout in your pajamas, just put the workout on! Even if you have no intentions of doing the workout (although I hope you will want to do it) maybe just watching it will snap a snap kick or two out of you. 😂 See what I did there!


In all honesty, this is a really rough time. It's affecting everyone whether you live alone or with others. None of it is easy. But you will get through it! On a serious note it really is best to stick to a routine - keep it simple at first and break it down into morning, daytime and evening "activities". Once you have your routine established, add in a hobby (or create a new one). This will spice up your day a little bit. Remember to stay connected with friends and loved ones! Set aside time to call family, respond to texts and even reach out to people you haven't spoken with in a while. You can always chat with me and the squad in the B&B Facebook group - in fact I encourage it! And please try to workout! It gives you endorphins, boosts your immune system and keeps you active during this time at home. Build your workout into your daily routine, even if it's all you do during the "daytime"!

I know during this time at home when it seems like there's nothing to do there's still a tremendous amount of work to do. A lot of people are homeschooling and parenting full time. Kudos to you and all that you are doing for your kids! I can't even imagine having kids running around the house right now, so I applaud you and all your effort! But you still need to make time for YOU! Make sure that you are taking care of yourself!

There's so much stuff I miss doing on a daily basis, but I am finding new ways to keep me busy at home. I'm continuing to film B&B workouts (don't worry, it's just me and my camera man fiancé so we are abiding by all social distancing rules) and hosting LIVE workouts every weekend. This has not only kept me very busy but amazingly sane. We will get through this together, as a squad! Stay home, stay safe, stay sweaty, stay occupied and stay motivated. A little bit of positive thinking goes a long way. WE GOT THIS. 💛
